dot.kde.org to be resurrected? Let's hope so...

So, I've been having some discussions on the www-kde mailinglist about renovating dot.kde.org. It seems that renovating is wanted by a number of people including myself (including Daniel Molkentin and Sebastain Kuegler). It seems that things will get going here some time soon and I imagine the changes will be very welcome.

I think this was partially spurred because I was able to recreate the dot (using Drupal) in about an hour of work. Drupal is a nice platform to work with, and a lot of the functionality was already built in. Just a matter of doing a small amount of styling and enabling some modules.

I'm not sure that the dot will be transitioned to Drupal but I think that it would be a good fit for KDE. While blogging systems would provide the necessary things right now, the dot may become more in the future so having something like Drupal would be beneficial to the future of the site by allowing it to easily expand in its functionality. Furthermore, something like this may be able to create collaboration between the KDE and Drupal communities which would be extremely beneficial.

In fact, I think this would be a great area to explore for KDE and Drupal in the future. Create consistent APIs for web based data storage and manipulation and integrate it into the KDE desktop. Distributed social networking I think is a pretty awesome idea and the integration would be cool as well. I will follow this up with future postings and get more into this idea.
